MANILA — In line with local government’s campaign to uplift the lives and health of the city’s pregnant marginalized mothers, Caloocan mayor Enrico “Recom” Echiverri has ordered the city’s health office and all barangay health centers to intensify the distribution of vitamins and nutritional supplements to all expecting mothers in his area of jurisdiction.
Echiverri said that the distribution of nutritional supplements is done so that all babies that will be delivered in Caloocan will be healthy and disease-free along with their mothers.
The Caloocan mayor believes that the local government must invest on its poor residents so that they in turn will transform into productive assets of the community.
He also believes that it is the social duty of the city to help individuals who are hard-pressed to help themselves due to financial and economic constrictions.
The Caloocan mayor said that pregnancy supplements like iron and calcium pills can be availed of from the city health office, barangay health centers and medical facilities free of charge and only for the asking.
Aside from these nutritional supplements, Caloocan health practitioners are also willing to conduct periodic checkups on the mother and her babies to insure that they are not suffering from any debilitating disease during the pregnancy period at no costs.
He added that this in line with his vision that Caloocan be transformed into one of the Philippine’s most “mother friendly” cities. (PNA)
